* The most popular spelling of the city is 'Bongaon' though you may find 'Bangaon' in some spelling; both are correct. So don't worry much about the spelling.

* This city is also known as a border area, as the Indo-Bangladesh border is just situated in here; The Petrapole Border of india and Benapole Border of Bangladesh.

* It has well developed public transports with a Railway junction (It is the last station on the Sealdah-Bangaon section of Eastern Railway, 77 km from Sealdah Station), 3 Bus stations and other services. So if you're in Bongaon You don't have to worry about how to get home early.

* Bongaon is also famous for the Durga Puja festival. Almost every local clubs in here arrange the Durga Puja very well. And Bongaon can easily stand beside Kolkata in this matter. I shall say, you must visit Bongaon at least once to see the Durga Puja here. I'm sure you would love it.

 Education is Bongaon is really developed enough (Bangaon has an average literacy rate of 76%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with 55% of the males and 45% of females literate). The Oldest School here is the Bongaon High SchoolThe Bongaon High School has been a place of excellence in education in the Sub-Division of Bongaon commencing its educational journey in 1864 in pursuance of the Wood's Despatch during the British era.
   And also other Schools are available here(I will update later). The one and only college of Bongaon is the Dinabandhu Mahavidyalay (Bongaon College).

* One More important fact about Bongaon is that the Asia's Largest Land Port is the Petrapole which is situated in Bongaon.

Geography

Bangaon is located at 23.07°N 88.82°E. It has an average elevation of 7 metres (22 feet). It is the last station on the Sealdah-Bangaon section of Eastern Railway, 77 km from Sealdah Station. It is part of the Kolkata Suburban Railway system. The Sealdah – Bangaon railway was built between 1882 and 1884. Arsenic contamination is a major concern in this area.

Demographics

In the 2011 census, Bangaon municipality had a population of 110,668, out of which 56,416 were males and 54,252 were females. The 0–6 years population was 8,452. Effective literacy rate for the 7+ population was 90.25 per cent.

Dinabandhu Mahavidyalay is the only degree college in Bangaon which is currently affiliated to West Bengal State University(formerly affiliated to University of Calcutta)
