The original temple on the other side of the river |
Hey everyone, today I'll be writing about one of the famous places in Bongaon, "The Saat Bhai Kalitola Temple (সাত ভাই কালীতলা)". This temple has a huge history behind it. some are true some are baseless rumors. So today I'll write every story I know till now.
"The Saat Bhai Kalitola (সাত ভাই কালীতলা) or Saat Bheye Kalitola (সাত ভেয়ে কালীতলা) or Dakatey Kali (ডাকাতে কালী) or simply Kalitola (কালীতলা) are the same places."
History
During the British Rule in India Bongaon was merely a wild area. The forest alongside the famous Ichhamati River was so deep and spread within a large area. Many Tantriks was fond of this place. They loved the loneliness of this place as so ideal for worshiping the Hindu Goddess Kali. They built several Ashrams and Temples. The Tantriks were so active in sacrificing animals to hail the Goddess. But not only animals; sometimes they also sacrificed humans as well. They ran their expenses by robbing nearby places. So this place was known to normal people as a dangerous place.
Though some say that the Tantriks were not so bad actually. They used to rob only the bad people and gave away the money to the poor living people.
The Tanriks were seven brothers; so that's where the name of the temple came from.

Rumors
There are a lots of Rumors about this place. Long after the Tanriks are gone, the temple become famous as people recognize the Goddess of this temple is so active. So they starts worshiping there. One famous rumor is that during the British rule the railway wanted to built a bridge over the Ichhamati river to the Jessore(now in Bangladesh). So an European Christian officer ordered to cut down the Banyan tree where the Kali Idol was situated. But when the men hit the tree with an axe, it started bleeding like a human being and the British railway officer later died due to vomiting blood. After that the railway department made the bridge in a different place and started worshiping the temple every year during the December(-january).
